Neuropathy Program

Neuropathy is a disorder of the nervous system in which the nerves that connect the spinal cord to other regions of the body are damaged.
According to the Neuropathy Association, over 20 million Americans suffer from this condition. Neuropathy can cause painful symptoms in the hands and feet, including numbness, a tingling or burning sensation, and an extreme sensitivity to touch. Although this disease has historically been difficult to treat, our treatment has been achieving successful results for many patients across British Columbia.

This condition is attributed with numbness, tingling and sharp pains that can interfere with your body’s ability to transmit messages to your muscles, joints, skin. If this condition is ignored or mistreated, peripheral neuropathy can lead to irreversible conditions.

The following are the most common symptoms of peripheral neuropathy.
However, each individual may experience symptoms differently. Symptoms
include:

• Numbness
• Burning Pain
• Leg Cramping
• Balance Difficulty
• Sharp Electrical-Like Pain
• Pain While Walking
• Difficulty Sleeping From Leg & Foot Discomfort
• Prickling or Tingling Of The Feet or Hands

If you are experiencing one or more of the above mentioned symptoms, you may have peripheral neuropathy and if you do, you’re not alone.

What causes peripheral neuropathy?

Although the exact causes of peripheral neuropathy are unknown, several factors may contribute to the disorder, including the following:

• High blood glucose: High blood glucose causes chemical changes in nerves and impairs the nerves’ ability to transmit signals. It also has the potential to damage blood vessels that carry oxygen and nutrients to the nerves.

• Inherited factors: There are some genetic traits that may make some people more susceptible to nerve disease than others.
It is particularly prevalent among those who have diabetes and becomes more common as we age.
